Preparing For The Murph

We are coming up on the last week of May which means one thing here in Cleveland - it is Memorial Day weekend and hopefully Summer has finally come!  In the CrossFit world, this also means it is time for Murph! If you find yourself asking who Murph is then you must be new to our functional fit world of people who do not always take the easy road, are willing to work harder than they ever have for their fitness goals, and understand that the support of a community can lift mountains.  Welcome!  And prepare to scream at yourself for 40+ minutes this Memorial Day. What Is Murph  Murph is a CrossFit Hero WOD.  More, THE CrossFit Hero WOD.  Each year thousands of gyms around the United States program the same WOD on the same day - Memorial Day Murph. 3 Steps To Living The Fit Life

by, Coach K Rising from bed before 5:00AM to lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee, let alone move at a high intensity, is not easy. The decision to sleep in the extra hour before work can seem like a good one in the moment. But then like most people, I’m physically and mentally exhausted from the day, so the last thing I want to do is exert more energy towards something other than making food, sitting on the couch and crawling to bed. We all have busy lives that can sometimes cause us not to prioritize fitness. The excuses could be never ending and unfortunately we don’t have a little cheerleader sitting on our shoulder all day motivating us to do all of the things we know we should. So we have to focus on the small things in order to get on track, and stay there. Try these 3 simple for conquering those illusive health and fitness goals: Change Your Thinking It really is this simple. We have the power. Shift that mentality from couch potato to athlete. Regardless of ...

Fit Life - Navigating The Holidays

It's that time of year again when every health and fitness expert under the sun tells you how to live your holidays.  You know - portion control, eat healthy foods, no desert, no alcohol...  Sounds familiar right?  Well, what if you're a normal person?  We're guessing that not only does this "advice" seem unrealistic to you, but it might even piss you off a little bit.  It does to us, and we're technically "health and fitness experts." How about a discussion on where people tend to make those compromises that even they don't really want to make, but do so based on outside influence and the hectic events of holiday expectations.  We all know we can do a little better, so let us identify some of those places where you can. Downfalls First, where everyone gets caught up - being honest with yourself about where it all begins.  For Thanksgiving it tends to be the night before.  How's the Wild Turkey taste, honestly? In the short-run portio...

Home WODs for The Snow Storm Woes

It’s that time of year where the weather is frightful and we can’t always make it to the gym. But, that shouldn't stop you from getting SOME physical activity into your day. Here are some at-home workouts that require no equipment, only the will to get up and get moving! Any of these can be modified for your specific needs. If you can’t jump or make noise because you live in an apartment, try doing squat thrusts instead of burpees, or air squats instead of jumping air squats, etc. If you really really hate burpees like most of us do, sub them for something else you’d better enjoy and know you’re likely to complete in the comfort of your home. 3...2...1...GO!   Metcons For time: 21-15-9-15-21 Hand release push ups Air Squats Sit ups 100 Burpees for time   10 Rounds: 10 Chair Dips 10 Sit-ups 10 Diamond Push-ups 10 Split Lunges 3 Rounds: 1 min Max Push-ups 1 min Max Jumping Air Squats 1 min max Sit-ups 1 min Rest For time: ...
