CSC Sweatiest Angel July 2016

Congratulations to Dustin Lato on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of July! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.     Dustin is a constant supporter of other members as well as an exceptionally hard worker. At one point Dustin had a streak of 3 months with at least 6 PRs! Congratulations Dustin!   How long have you been doing CrossFit? Started in January 2016 so about 7 months. Tried a free class at a different gym a few years ago, but wasn’t my cup of tea.   What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation, etc)? I work a lot. I’ve got my own software business and part owner of 4 other ventures (apparel, sport software, vaporizer, and startup non-profit), freelance graphic/web designer on the side. I love what I do so it’s not really work for me. I also mountain bike a ...

CSC Sweatiest Angel - June 2016

Congratulations to Lizabeth Lukesic on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of June! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.  Not only is Liz always smiling and showing a positive attitude but she has also made some done some tremendous work lately - posting faster times in WODs, using heavier weight than she ever has and improving greatly at many skills. Just as she says, you get out of it what you put in, and Liz works her ass off. How long have you been doing CrossFit? I started doing CrossFit-like workouts four years ago and joined CSC in July of 2014. What do you do when you are not at CSC? When I am not at CSC I enjoy spending time outdoors with my posse or experimenting in the kitchen. When did you realize CrossFit was for you? When I realized the amount of physical and mental strength required. Everyd...

CSC Sweatiest Angel - May 2016

Congratulations to Mike Keele on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of May! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym. With his work schedule, you will usually find Mike at the the gym in the evenings.  However, the times vary depending on his shift. We point this out because Mike is a great example of someone who has made a commitment to his health and sticks to it even when life throws you curveballs - like 3rd shift. Mike recently began a diet program and supplementary lifting to the CrossFit program. His hard work has allowed him to drop around 17 pounds (accurate, Mike?) which has made him faster in WODs and stronger at body weight movements (e.g. his 1st set of 3 muscle-ups). Congratulations Mike! How long have you been doing CrossFit?   I've been doing CrossFit since M...

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...

CSC Sweatiest Angel - April 2016

Congratulations to Jim Bollenbacher on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of April! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.   Jim's as good a guy as they come.  Always hard working and supportive of his classmates.  A few months back Jim had to make the change from PM classes (which he had gone to for a couple years) to AM classes since he decided to purchase a home just outside of Cleveland.  As anyone who has made that change knows it can be a tough task.  But Jim has thrived both personally as an athlete and as an invaluable member of the AM community. How long have you been doing CrossFit? About 3.5 years.  I started at CLE [CrossFit CLE] and jumped right over to CSC [when coaches Adam and Jeff left to open CrossFit Sixth C...

CSC Sweatiest Angel - March 2016

Congratulations to Nicole Marzano on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of March! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.  When Nicole's in the gym, you know it - if she isn't yelling to push someone, supporting them while they finish their WOD or telling them good job afterwards you can probably find her having like the loudest conversations ever.  LOL We love having her around because she's a great person as well as someone who works her butt off.  Literally.  Many of the improvements she has made since joining CSC are very impressive: She has lost 18 pounds and 2 pant sizes Her back squat has increased from 165 lbs to 220 lbs Her bench press has increased from 110 lbs to 140 lbs She has learned how to find full ROM in her shoulders going overhead When she first arrived she probably used ever...
