Outside the Box pt.2 - The Great Outdoors

For the second installment of Outside the Box blog series we're getting unique.  It's Summer time.  Get outside and get dirty!  This edition looks at some unique and old school workouts.

As always, following are workouts that can be performed with much, if any, equipment.

Lifeguard Beach WODs:
  • 5 rounds: jog 2 minutes + 10 pushups + 10 walking lunges + 10 single-leg hip raises + 20 mountain climbers
  • (With 2 sand-filled buckets, map out a half mile loop) For 20 minutes: perform farmers carry for 1 min, then run loop back to the buckets
  • 3 rounds: run 400m + swim back 400m + run 400m (rest 5:00)
  • Paddle 1000m + run 1000m + 100 pushups + 100 air squats
  • 10 rounds: run for 1 minute + 10 burpees
Beach Conditioning Movements:
  • Sprints
  • Lunges
  • Bear crawls
  • Crab walks
  • Wheel barrows
  • Buddy carries
  • Broad jumps
  • Burpee broad jumps
  • Triple jump
Air Dyne WODs:
  • "Tabata air dyne" 8 rounds: 20 seconds max calories + 10 seconds rest
  • 5 rounds: 1 minute max calories (rest as needed)
  • Burn 300 calories in 10 minutes (Gym Jones)
  • 5 rounds: 30 calories + 20 pistols
  • 100 HSPUs for time: 10 calories on air dyne every break in HSPUs
Pull-up Bar WODs:
  • 100 pullups for time
  • "Cindy" 20 min AMRAP: 5 pullups + 10 pushups + 15 air squats
  • "Nicole" 20 min AMRAP: 400m run + max unbroken pullups
  • Burpee Fran (21-15-9): burpees + pullups
  • "Angie" For time: 100 pullups + 100 pushups + 100 situps + 100 air squats

Congratulations to our Sweatiest Angel for June 2017 - Amanda Stanoszek! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the CSC athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.  Amanda wears many hats - CrossFitter, competitive triathlete, school teacher, high school coach and owner and operator of Bomani Strength. As someone who is driven by helping kids she has been a coach for multiple sports at Shaw High School where she also spends a lot of time working out before and after school with her students. Making Breakfast Easy

If you're anything like me, breakfast is an important start to your day, and a considerable amount of fuel. Making a solid morning meal has become a priority over the past couple years, but often requires a decent amount of cooking. I'm okay with cooking each morning and have become pretty efficient with the routine, but wish I could be a little more efficient on time. If the same thoughts go through your head, this post is for you. Below are 5 easy prep breakfast recipes that can either be made ahead of time or require very little work the morning of. Good Fat Breakfast Bar Ingredients: 1 cup almonds 1 cup cashews 1/2 cup unsweetened, shredded coconut 1/4 teaspoon sea salt 1/4 cup honey Instructions: Rough chop almonds and cashews in food processor Add coconut and pulse slightly Add to bowl and thoroughly mix in salt and honey  Spread on baking sheet covered in parchment paper Let cool 2-3 hours Macros (4 servings): Calories - 434 Carbs - 35.3g Fat - 3...
