CSC Sweatiest Angel - September 2015

Congratulations to Brian Rockwell on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of September!  The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.

Brian busts his butt each day he's at the gym as well as puts in extra time working on weaknesses and continuing to grow strengths.  He is also a great athlete to have in class as his experience level allows him to lead and help new athletes getting accustomed to the class environment.  You can usually find him doing handstands and OHS, without his shirt on!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Almost 3 years.

What do you do when you are not at CSC?
I am a lawyer for the Cleveland Clinic. Outside of work and CSC I do a lot of yoga and read a lot (I'm secretly a big literature nerd).

When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
My first workout back in DC - I thought I was going to die and I was hooked.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Muscle-ups

What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
Tie between running and double unders - they are both just awful and should not be programmed anymore.

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
RX'ing all of the Open WODs last year.

What motivates you during a WOD?
The other people working through the WOD with me (and usually not Coach Adam's death metal music).

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Don't be intimidated and don't worry about what weight/movements other people are doing.

CrossFit, The Newbie Mindset

Dear CrossFit beginners, this is what your coach wants you to know... Whether you are a new CrossFit athlete, someone interested in trying our style of fitness or someone on the fence, we want you to understand our mindset when it comes to training you and our expectations for you on day one. We will also address the common concerns we hear from beginners. I have to get into better shape before I start CrossFit. I feel bad saying this but sometimes this statement makes us laugh. Perhaps it is the frequency with which we hear it. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program built on a few guiding principles (constantly varied, functional movement, at high intensity) and created to improve overall health, wellness and fitness.
