Life Starts at Go

Life is a series of turns and choices.  Make a left.  Make a right.  Pursue an opportunity.  Take on a challenge.   Sit in place and do nothing.  A case can be made that they are one in the same, opportunities come to those willing to view challenges as the seeds success.
If we really analyze opportunity we find that the value in a challenge is fear.  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of change.  Leaving the security of a job and branching out for a new opportunity is scary.  A pretty significant “challenge.”
It is May 21st and about 4 months since CrossFit Sixth City opened its doors under the management company’s name, Cleveland Strength and Conditioning.  As budding entrepreneurs we understood and experienced fear of starting a new business from scratch.  We have experienced the growing pains of a start-up and worked through a lot of trial and error.
But no matter how many scary scenarios we threw on the table, the one thing we kept coming back to was the people.  It was because of the great relationships we have built over the last couple years that we had the confidence it took to test change.  Without these people who have been there to challenge and support us, CSC would not be an incredible success in the making.
For everything our members have done and the drive you bring to the gym each day, we thank you!
The process was not without difficulties.  At times we have felt as if we let friends down with the decisions we had to make in order to pursue our dreams.  For this we can’t apologize enough.
Now the focus is ahead.  On today, on tomorrow and the future.
We took this leap for those willing to walk with us, and for them we will walk strong and swift.  Our goal is to create something grand.
In essence, CSC is a CrossFit gym.  In truth, we are and will become much more.  CrossFit in and of itself is an excellent program.  However, in order to deliver the most well-rounded training experience we think we need more.  Because of this we have created additional programs including Olympic lifting, dietary consulting and a coming endurance program that will focus on triathlon prep.  Combined with our daily focus on strength building, mobility and movement quality, we are laying the ground work for what we believe will be the most effective and entertaining fitness program in the city.
The promise we make to our members is simple – hard work and respect.  We will always have the utmost respect for anyone who walks through our doors with the intention to better themselves.  Because of that, we will always be dedicated to constant improvement and growth inside and outside the gym.  Regularly researching new methods of training and gym activities, while pushing the balance between measurement and creativity.
A facility of much more than four walls and a roof with some equipment.  CSC is a destination of challenge, excitement, conquest and fulfillment.  In order to achieve anything great in life it is paramount to extend outside of one’s comfort zone, both mentally and physically.  After all, there is not much point in busting our butts to become fit if we do not take advantage of it in any way.
Keep an eye out for community events.  Like an Around-The-City WOD similar to the one we hosted two years ago, as well as other workouts, competitions and events both inside and outside the gym, in the interest of working out and furthering social relationships.  The true bond of our community is not just in our proximity but the amount we are willing to give for ourselves and the around us.
Somewhere out there a great mother once said, “Surround yourself with good people and your life will be filled with success and happiness.”  Thank you to our members for laying the foundation to this success and happiness, and cheers to those who are yet to come.
WOD on!

When I realized the amount of physical and mental strength required. Everyd...

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...
