CSC Sweatiest Angel - July 2015

Join us in congratulating CSC's Sweatiest Angel of the month for July, Allison Hayes!

Each month CSC recognizes one of our members for their exceptional work ethic.  The Sweatiest Angel is not someone who works as hard as they can day in and day out, but also receptive to coaching, a great teammate and consistently focused on pursuing their goals and supporting those around them.

Allison is one of those people that ooze work ethic and eagerness.  Sometimes we cannot get her to leave the gym.  But seriously, if anyone has suggestions on how to get her to go home we're all ears.  Perhaps this is one of the reasons why she has come as far as she has since starting CrossFit in 2013 and coming to CSC in 2014.  We are a little scared to dig up an old picture of her though.  Instead we'll let her show off her impressive transformation... and guns!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
A little over 2 years.

What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation, etc)?
When am I not at CSC?...  My OTHER hobbies include abundant sarcasm, being selectively social, brushing my hair, flexing in front of the mirror, JB, vodka, and trying to close the elevator door before someone else can get on.

When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
It wasn’t that hard to convince me to stop running on the treadmill at the Y.  Better results with shorter workouts?  And having people around to commiserate with?  Sign me up.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Power cleans, wall walks, SDHP.  All barbell WODs with no gymnastics or things that require coordination.

What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
Running and thrusters.

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
A bar muscle up.

What motivates you during a WOD?
Your mind will quit 100 times before your body ever does.  I’m motivated by how it feels when I’m done knowing how many times I told my mind to shut up.  Also the look on Todd’s face when I beat him for the fifth time that week and looking better than Ben in a bikini.

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Don’t move my chalk bucket.  Just kidding.  CrossFit is like anything else in life – you get back what you put in.

“If you come into the gym and bust your butt, I guarantee you that you’re successful in other things you’re doing outside the gym.” – Jason Khalipa

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...
