We love having her around because she's a great person as well as someone who works her butt off. Literally. Many of the improvements she has made since joining CSC are very impressive:
- She has lost 18 pounds and 2 pant sizes
- Her back squat has increased from 165 lbs to 220 lbs
- Her bench press has increased from 110 lbs to 140 lbs
- She has learned how to find full ROM in her shoulders going overhead
- When she first arrived she probably used every band on pull-ups (at the same time). Since then people have reported seeing her string together several kipping pull-ups.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Roughly 2 years.
What do you do when you are not at CSC?
Working strange hours as a crisis manager for Keybank. Let’s not forget bro-ing out in the mirror and TRYING to lift all the weights. Keyword TRYING. If not, being a super cool aunt and playing with my niece and nephews.
When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
The intense 1 hour workouts, the music pumping, the support from friends made it a done deal for me. Not to mention, the sense of community/friends that I’ve met along the way. What can I say - I too, drank the Kool-Aid.
What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Sumo deadlifts and kettlebell swings. They are two movements that hit a ton of muscles at once. Kinda my jam these days. Multitasking = Good.
What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
Oh goodness, where do I begin? Let me throw a curve ball at you, I’m going top 3:
- Gymnasty (gymnastics) isn’t my strength. Coach J (and Jesus) laugh when I kip; it’s cute.
- Don’t even get me started on DUBS… Who intended a rope to be hopped over MORE THAN ONCE? Not this girl.
- Burpees. There’s a special place for someone who created this movement.
One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
PR-ing a ton! When I started at CSC, I went from a 205lb deadlift to a 280lb deadlift; which isn’t that heavy, but it’s relative to our own bodies. Obviously I have more work to do, but CSC pushes me super hard. Way harder than anything I’ve done.
What motivates you during a WOD?
Super fun upbeat music, Coachie giving me advice on how to get through each WOD, and my homies giving me some extra love when I look like I’m dying.
What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Learn the movement. Do not rush the
lift and push more weight. Really focus on learning the technique. It
is hard and you may not get it at first and that’s ok. Oh and one more
thing; being afraid of your workout is OK. Don’t fall into your comfort
zone doing the same things you’ve always done. What’s the definition
of insanity? I’ve seen results because I tried something new that
absolutely scared me. Give it a shot!
