Sweatiest Angel March 2017

Congratulations to CSC's newest papa, Arnie Colvin, and March's Sweatiest Angel!

The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the CrossFit Sixth City athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.

Rarely does any athlete show up at the gym with more focus on improvement. In fact, he usually leaves the sweatiest of angels of the day.

Despite having a newborn baby boy (congratulations to Arnie and Jen) and a full time engineer position with irregular hours Arnie has continued to maintain focus on his training and it showed during The Open this year, where in March he set 5 PRs.
  • 185 lb clean
  • 135 lb snatch
  • 1st "Rx" HSPU WOD
  • 1st bar muscle-up
  • 125 lb push jerk
Cheers to your hard work and your beautiful baby boy, Arnie!

Arnie's Sweat Angel

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Arnie: August 2015

What do you do when you're not at CSC?
Arnie: Running, swimming, wood working, diaper changing, home improvement projects, honey-do-list, craft beer drinking and soccer watching.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Arnie: Deadlifts, pull-ups, leg day (everything Jen hates)

What is your least favorite WOD/movement?
Arnie: Wall balls and bench press (everything Jen loves)

When did you come to find CrossFit and realize it was for you?
Arnie: The first day. It felt like being on a team again with the group dynamic. The coaching was supportive and motivational.

What were your expectations when you started CrossFit?
Arnie: I expected to add a new element to my fitness.

What are your goals for CrossFit now?
Arnie: They are always changing. Always happy, never satisfied. Right now I like working on Oly lifts.

How has your experience with CrossFit been?
Arnie: Life is a lot easier when the hardest part of your day is something you enjoy. Aspects of CrossFit can apply to everything in life.

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
Arnie: Lift Heavy Shit! I never thought I would be as strong as I have become.

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Arnie: My pregnant wife lifted until the day before she delivered (video). There is a Speed/Scale for you.

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...
