Sweatiest Angel - Bryant Robles

Congratulations to Sweatiest Angel for the month of August, Bryant Robles!

The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the Sixth City athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others, and a true sense of team camaraderie inside the gym.

This is a tough one for us because Bryant literally just moved home to Milwaukee, and absolutely deserves this recognition. For about a year now he has showed up to the gym Monday through Friday just about every week. Whether he felt great and was crushing it, or was sore and a little slow that day he put forth the same work ethic and commitment to improving that a coach dreams of seeing in every athlete. He accepted his weaknesses (thoracic mobility) head on and consistently strove for improvement. On day one he could barely get the barbell over the center of his head, but recently had worked all the way up to some pretty awesome overhead squat and snatch PRs.

Congratulations Bryant, we have been proud to have you as part of the family and even though you're a University of Wisconsin fan, we will still miss you!

One of the 1st OHS WODs Bryant did!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Bryant: I've been doing CrossFit for a little over a year.

What do you do when you're not at Sixth City?
Bryant: If I'm not being an engineer, I'm spending time with my wife and my pup, reading, watching movies, playing soccer and doing something outdoors.

What is your favorite WOD/Movement?
Bryant: It's between deadlifts and bench press.

What is your least favorite WOD/Movement?
Bryant: Overhead squats and front squats. My thoracic mobility sucks but it is something that has gotten much better through different mobility exercises my coaches recommended.

When did you come to find CrossFit and realize it was for you?
Bryant: Before CrossFit I just went to a "regular" gym and lifted weights, benching (chest) was my favorite but I was stuck and couldn't hit four plates (225 lbs) for the longest time. After a couple weeks at CrossFit, getting stronger and faster, I was able to hit four plates and more... That's when I realized CrossFit was for me. LOL

What were your expectations when you started CrossFit?
Bryant: I expected to be challenged, to get stronger, faster, and overall to become a better athlete. I'm challenged every day and all aspects of CrossFit have helped me become better physically and mentally.

What are your goals for CrossFit?
Bryant: I obviously want to keep getting stronger and faster, but my main goal is to continue working on my thoracic mobility (Great answer, Bryant!) and improve my form on every lift (That a boy!). Also one day beat Muñe in anything that has to do with burpees. LOL

What has your experience been with CrossFit?
Bryant: It has been awesome. I love the challenge and the community that CrossFit brings.

What is one thing you have done at Sixth City that you never thought you would do?
Bryant: Muscle up - thank you YouTube, CrossFit Games and of course coaches! LOL

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Bryant: At the end of the day, the only person you are competing with is yourself. Have fun and work hard!
