CSC Sweatiest Angel - April 2015

Congratulations - Linda Glynias & Paul Schumacher

Join us in congratulating CrossFit Sixth City's Co-Sweatiest Angels for the month of April 2015 - Linda Glynias and Paul Schumacher!

Sweatiest Angel Award

Each month CSC recognizes someone for their hard work.  The Sweatiest Angel is not someone who works as hard as they can day in and day out, but also receptive to coaching, a great teammate and consistently focused on pursuing their goals.

Question + Answer (Linda)

How many years have you been doing CrossFit?
3 years

What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation, etc)?
Self employed, insurance sales (mainly health and Medicare), have about 500 customers, since 1981! hobbies include yoga, cycling, swimming, volunteering for St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and the Disaster Team/American Red Cross. Travel to visit children (Marissa now in CT and Joey in Washington DC) and with husband’s , Manuel-select business trips! (like London or CA!)

When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
About 2 years before I started, the first time I saw a video of a master female getting a PR in the CF Open. I then conditioned for 2 years to be at a certain fitness level (like jumping rope, running etc) to be ready to start. I loved the idea of no boundaries and the community effort to accomplish it.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Love HSPU and deadlifts

What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
Burpees

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
I wanted to be competitive at the masters level and accomplished my goal this season because of my age and the scaling.

What motivates you during a WOD?
For sure the coaching, music, and everyone else either in my WOD or just hanging around!

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
It is a lot of fun and a lot of work, everyday something unexpectedly will happen if you let it, it prepares you to be in uncomfortable situations and be successful. You are never done learning, so jump in wherever you are and you will learn and grow each day. My favorite time of the day!!!!

Question + Answer (Paul)

How many years have you been doing CrossFit?
3.5 years

What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation, etc)?
Practice law (32+years), personal trainer and instructor at CSU Rec I also enjoy hiking and cooking and spending time with my beautiful wife Mary!

When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
When I realized that running wasn't the answer to complete fitness AND when I realized that I can occasionally still beat out young studs like JB!

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Favorite Hero WOD: "Helen"; anything with running or dubs.

What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
So many to choose from..... burpees, HSPU's and T2B

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
OHS and dubs  AND the jury is still out on my ability to ever do HSPU's!

What motivates you during a WOD?
The open garage door, loud music and a full gym of athletes pushing to their limits. (And, of course, the chance to beat Cheese once in a WOD.)

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
"Everything is hard until it becomes easy. -Paul Schumacher
Listen to your coaches not your ego, do mobility every day and eat like you are an elite athlete.

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...
