Congratulations to Stephanie Romich and Brian Evans on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of December! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym. As individuals and a couple, Steph and Brian couldn't be harder workers or more supportive of their fellow members. Recently, Brian stepped out of his comfort zone to do his first competition and Steph a couple, they both fit in as many extra Olympic lifting classes as possible and are as consistent as anyone at CSC.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Steph: I have been hanging out in various CrossFit gyms for just shy
of 3 years now.Brian: Ever since Steph pushed me into the gym last February.
What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation,
etc)?
S: When not hanging
out with all the beautiful people of CSC, you can find me in the Outpatient
Sports Medicine facility in Mentor working as a Physical Therapist and Athletic
Trainer for UH. I also am a goalie on an adult soccer league and have been highly
involved in UH for ACL injury prevention, running clinics, and local college
coverage. I also enjoy any local drinking related activities, especially when
they involve friends and food.
B: Ironically enough, I am a specialist in all things non-paleo. I am currently a managing partner and executive chef at the best artisanal bakery in the city – On The Rise! When not sweating profusely in front of the ovens making bread for the best restaurants in the city, I am putting all of my effort into expanding into our new space where I have the opportunity to display my culinary prowess. I also enjoy trying to sneak in day naps, reading a good cookbook (yes, I do that), and playing with my dog Gazpacho and cat Phoenix.
When did you realize CrossFit was for you?
S: Originally, I
joined CrossFit because I had a Groupon. I quickly realized I wanted to stay
because it was an outlet for me to be competitive within myself, constantly
made me do all the things I hated in the gym, and loved having a room full of
people who are all suffering with me. It has also been an amazing outlet to
meet people in all the cities I have moved to!
B: Oh… I had a choice to go or not?.. I’ll let you know when I figure it out.
B: Oh… I had a choice to go or not?.. I’ll let you know when I figure it out.
What is your favorite WOD/movement?
S: I love Olympic weightlifting
and rowing.
B: I recently discovered I can consistently beat Steph on wall climbs…so bring them on!! I also enjoy the lifting because it feels great to hit PR’s.
What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
S: I hate when a lot
of things I am not good at are grouped together (i.e. double unders, ring dips,
handstand push-ups, and wall climbs).
B: Burpee box jumps are the worst.
One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
S: Putting together
30ish double unders, finally getting pull-ups, and having Coach Jeff tell me my
lift “looked pretty good” have all been great accomplishments.
B: I have been able to go 4 days in a row and was able to walk the next day (barely…but able).
What motivates you during a WOD?
S: Being able to eat
chocolate and not get fat…but seriously. I always know I am going to feel great
about pushing through afterward and the awesome endorphins working out
releases.
B: Well, I’ve never been a quitter. I just look forward to collapsing afterwards and then sitting for a while and thinking about how happy I am to still be alive.
What advice would you give someone just
starting CrossFit?
S: Don’t move chalk buckets until you know who
put them there. Also, keep pushing because things WILL get better, you WILL get
stronger, and you WILL find things you’re really good at! DON’T NEGLECT YOUR MOBILITY.B: Just show up, walking through the door is always the toughest thing to do.
