Sweatiest Angel - April 2017

Congratulations to our Sweatiest Angel for April 2017 - Muñe Gil! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the CSC athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.

Muñe has progressed more in the short time she's been training with us than just about any CSC athlete. She's super competitive with herself, always takes on her weaknesses and loves training each day. She is a great example of an athlete who understands the point of training and fitness. Utilizing what we do in the gym as a means of helping us enjoy the life we have - playing sports, enjoying the outdoors and living an active life.

Congratulations Muñe. We're proud to have you as part of the family!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Mune: I have been doing CrossFit for about 10 months now, time flies!

What do you do when you're not at CSC?
Mune: My life mainly consists of work, school and CrossFit. I am a nurse at Lutheran Hospital's emergency department and am in school to obtain my Master's. I'm hoping to graduate next May as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I also play in a co-ed soccer league Tuesday nights.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?
Mune: Front squats

What is your least favorite WOD/movement?
Mune: Push-ups and pull-ups

When did you come to find CrossFit and realize it was for you?
Mune: My husband and I have always enjoyed working out, but going to the gym was becoming a drag and we weren't enjoying ourselves anymore. A few friends mentioned CrossFit and I decided to look more into it. After meeting with Coach A and doing a "Sunday Funday" I knew CrossFit was for me. Bryant was hesitant about joining at first, but now he loves it more than I do!

What were your expectations when you started CrossFit?
Mune: I expected a challenge and I have received that and more. I am challenged every day with every workout.

What are your goals for CrossFit now?
Mune: Aside from beating Bryant at every WOD, I want to continue building my strength. I have come a long way these past 10 months. I want to focus on eating healthier and feeling good about myself while putting my best effort into it.

How has your experience with CrossFit been?
Mune: I love CrossFit! It has challenged me to become a better person, physically and mentally. I push myself to make it to class at least 4 times a week, even if it means waking up at 5am before a 12 hour shift.

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?
Mune: That's easy, a pull-up!

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?
Mune: Don't be intimidated, work hard, but overall have fun.

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...
