CSC Sweatiest Angel July 2016

Congratulations to Dustin Lato on winning CSC's Sweatiest Angel award for the month of July! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.

Dustin is a constant supporter of other members as well as an exceptionally hard worker. At one point Dustin had a streak of 3 months with at least 6 PRs! Congratulations Dustin!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Started in January 2016 so about 7 months. Tried a free class at a different gym a few years ago, but wasn’t my cup of tea.

What do you do when you are not at CSC (hobbies, occupation, etc)?

I work a lot. I’ve got my own software business and part owner of 4 other ventures (apparel, sport software, vaporizer, and startup non-profit), freelance graphic/web designer on the side. I love what I do so it’s not really work for me. I also mountain bike a bit (when I’m free) among other things.

When did you realize CrossFit was for you?

I made up my mind that what I had been doing for years just wasn’t working the way I wanted. Needed a change and really enjoyed the group aspect, the coaches, and the people at this gym.

What is your favorite WOD/movement?

I’d do Squats and Sled-Pulls everyday if the coaches would let me.

What is your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?

Burpees & Wallballs suck balls!

One thing you've done at CSC you never thought you would do?

Any olympic lifts. Never did them before. Never had any interest.

What motivates you during a WOD?

Not finishing last.

What advice would you give someone just starting CrossFit?

Be aware of your body and your weaknesses. If done frequent enough, Crossfit will show you things about your body pretty quickly. Then you can adjust and work on those areas in order to get the best possible results for you.

From The Eyes of a PT - Knees

Introduction   Over the years, we CrossFit coaches have noticed many behavioral trends among our athletes. One of the most common trends we see involves their willingness to take to heart our opinions on building strength, increasing range of motion (mobility) or healthy eating.  We are often seen as experts in these fields thanks to thousands of hours of real world practice and learning.  However, one of the areas that we often get scoffed at is that of injuries, whether they are the nagging or serious variety.  We’ll be the first to admit that we are certainly no experts in this area of health and wellness as we have never received a sports medicine or physical therapy degree, nor practiced as a licensed physical therapist.  Having said that, through the years we have come to develop a pretty good instinct for when athletes are pushing too hard and entering the window of overuse injuries.  Unfortunately, our words of wisdom oft fall on deaf ears. ...
