Sweatiest Angel March 2017

Congratulations to CSC's newest papa, Arnie Colvin , and March's Sweatiest Angel! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the CrossFit Sixth City athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym. Rarely does any athlete show up at the gym with more focus on improvement. In fact, he usually leaves the sweatiest of angels of the day.  Despite having a newborn baby boy (congratulations to Arnie and Jen) and a full time engineer position with irregular hours Arnie has continued to maintain focus on his training and it showed during The Open this year, where in March he set 5 PRs.  185 lb clean 135 lb snatch 1st "Rx" HSPU WOD 1st bar muscle-up 125 lb push jerk Cheers to your hard work and your beautiful baby boy, Arnie! The Strong Woman

Author - Coach Jennifer Britton When Coach Adam petitioned me to write a short piece on what being a strong woman means to me, I of course immediately accepted. I pulled out my trusty tablet, opened a blank page in my word processor, rested my fingers on the keyboard, and then…nothing.   "This should be easy," I thought to myself. After all, I consider myself to be a "strong woman." So, why was I finding it difficult to define this term? That's when it hit me: the vastness and depth of what it means to be a strong woman is infinitely definable.   Having said that, here is what it means to me, in the simplest of summations, to be a strong woman.   It means being independent while also being comfortable with depending upon others from time to time, whether it's for guidance, comfort, or support.   It means having strength of character, continually striving to be the best version of myself physically, emotionally, and outwardly towards my ...

Sweatiest Angel - February 2017

Congratulations to our no-show sock, pink laces, short-short wearing friend Todd Glassman on being named CSC's Sweatiest Angel! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the CSC athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym. Todd has been with us since the beginning and is one of a kind. Our heavily tattooed, usually bearded, booty sock wearing teddy bear has always been a very strong person and consistent smiling face at the gym (except during bad Winters). But over the last couple of months he has been diligently working to increase his aerobic base, shed a few pounds and become a better overall athlete. Which he has done very well, including the third fastest male time on Open WOD 17.1. His most recent goal is to run a sub 7:00 mile. Not bad for someone who's squatted almost 500 pounds, pressed 200 pounds and deadlifted over 500 pounds. Cheers to you Todd, and all of your hard work! ...

Sweatiest Angels - January 2017

Congratulations to our dynamic duo, the cool kids of Buffalo, Alexis Derrigo and Lindsay Ponto on being named CSC's Sweatiest Angels! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to the CSC athlete who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym. Alexis and Lindsay came to Cleveland for grad school last year from Buffalo, New York. They have been friends since sophomore year of undergrad after ending up dorm neighbors. After about a year of CrossFit Lindsay was finally able to nag Alexis into joining "the cult." They've been the dynamic weight slinging duo ever since! They both have been a ray of sunshine in our classes since arriving in Cleveland, with a little bit of bad ass butt kicker on the side. We hear they also make some fantastic cookies! How long have you been doing CrossFit? L: 2.5 years. A: Almost 2 years. What do you do when you're not at CSC? L: Go to class, stud...

New Years Resolution? Not for me.

It's the first week of January and that means one thing - gyms everywhere are about to meet a bunch of people motivated to conquer their new years resolutions.  Did you create one?  If you did, is your plan to lose weight, get stronger, get healthier, lower your markers and try and lessen the impact your diabetes is having on you?  Or, is it something ridiculous like try and clean 300 lbs when you're currently only cleaning 100 lbs? Whatever your goal, chances are you have made a resolution for 2017.  Well, screw your new years resolutions .  Yep, you read that right.  Screw your new years resolutions.  I realize this is a seemingly super negative point-of-view, and if you know me that should throw you off.  But... If you have a resolution for this year you probably had one for 2016 and 2015, and maybe even as far back as 2000.  Look back, give yourself an honest assessment and count how many times your resolution has been success...

CSC Sweatiest Angel - December 2016

Congratulations to Neil Ningard on winning CSC's last Sweatiest Angel award for 2016! The Sweatiest Angel award is given each month to a CSC member who displays significant work ethic, a willingness to support others and a true sense of camaraderie inside the gym.  Neil came to CSC like a lot of guys who enjoy lifting do - with a lot of upper body strength and in seek of some lower body conditioning.  Since joining CSC, Neil has increased his lower body strength significantly, his conditioning, mobility and range of motion significantly, and even increased his already impressive upper body strength with a 385 lb bench press and 235 lb strict press.  And the most impressive part is that he's done it with an awesome work ethic and a giant smile on his face.  Congrats Neil, we love having you as a member!     How long have you been doing CrossFit? (I've) been doing CrossFit ...
